At a press conference of the ongoing third session of the 13th provincial people's congress, Mr. Liu Ji, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Huizhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Huizhou answered questions in related to transportation network planning and “2+1” modern industrial clusters.
Huizhou to build a 丰-shaped transportation network
At the press conference, Mr. Liu Ji used a map to describe the 丰-shaped transportation network to participating journalists.
According to Mr. Liu Ji, there were two considerations behind the 丰-shaped design of the transportation network. Firstly it was based on a broad concept of integrated transportation network for the entire Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which would help facilitate the flows of various resource factors. Secondly this type of transportation network will help connect major industrial clusters with major areas, thus promoting the city-industry integration. Huizhou kicked off the construction for this transportation network on December 28 last year, and the project is expected to be completed in 3 to 5 years. When completed, this network will enable Huizhou to play a greater role in the development of the GBA and Shenzhen’s endeavor in becoming a demonstration zone for socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Huizhou to create two major industrial clusters
At the press conference, Mr. Liu Ji was also asked about the “2+1” industrial cluster development. Liu explained that in the next 8 to 10 years Huizhou would focus on the development of two major industrial clusters each with an output value of 1 trillion yuan, namely petrochemical energy & new material and electronic information, as well as life health as an emerging pillar industry.
Mr. Liu expressed Huizhou’s confidence in developing the “2+1” industrial clusters largely due to the city’s solid industrial foundation. At present the petrochemical area in Daya Bay has China’s largest refining-chemical integration capacity, and Huizhou’s industrial scale of electronic information now ranks the third in the entire province. In addition, by tapping into Huizhou’s location advantage and advantageous resources, Huizhou can grow its life health industry robustly.
Mr. Liu also disclosed Huizhou’s ambitious new moves, including a world-class polycarbonate unit to be installed by CNOOC & Shell Petrochemicals and a joint cooperation with a Fortune 500 enterprise to develop a middle and downstream project within the fine chemical engineering. In Mr. Liu’s own words, “I hope that media organizations would pay closer attention to Huizhou’s development.”
